# No, I am NOT a Physio! >[!example] 11 April 2023 #blog > > I wrote this a while back in response to a disrespectful comment that was made on my page. I was accused of not disclosing my qualifications and posing as a Physio. But I thought I'd share again after talking to a colleague who had a similar experience. > >The post is not intended as a dig at those who have spent the time and money to gain qualifications in university. It was simply a plea not to disregard experience or qualifications that have are gained outside of university. Because there are so many of us that have travelled this path. And we are great at what we do. --- Firstly, let me be clear….I am not a Physio and I have never declared to be. Not once in my entire life. I am also not a Chiropractor or an Osteopath. I am, by qualification, a Sports and Remedial Massage Therapist, a Personal Trainer and a Biomechanics Coach. I am also a Pilates teacher, Spin instructor and Metafit Coach. I have qualifications in Health & Exercise Referral, Older Populations and Children's fitness. This means I can work with those who have health and medical conditions, older populations and children. I have certificates in Sports Injury, Nutrition, Sports Nutrition and Weight Management. I also have them in Pre & Post Natal Fitness, Female Pelvic Pain Rehab and Back Pain in Women. I’m a Specialist Wellness Coach working with women who are Peri-Menopausal & Menopausal. I’m also qualified in Leisure Management - which was fun! But no. I do not have a degree or doctorate. What I do have is 20 years of working within the health, fitness and wellness industry. I have conducted well over 10,000 Treatments, PT Sessions and Fitness classes. I have helped support those with niggles, aches, pains and injuries. I have helped with sports performance, competition prep, nutrition and lifestyle changes. I have worked to help so, so many people improve their health, move more freely and live fearlessly. I’ve worked with everyone from business professionals to new mums to athletes and peri-menopausal women. I have never once worked beyond my scope of practice. I refer out any clients that I do not have the capacity to work with and am not ashamed to do so. I can only do what I can do with what I have available to me at that time. And if I don’t know something, I learn. I NEVER stop learning. Just so I can continue to be the best I can be for my clients. It’s not that I don’t disclose my qualifications. It’s just that I have never needed to. Because my 20 years in the industry and a solid reputation have been enough. It’s also because, personally, I don’t think it matters what qualifications someone has. I have met some really shitty doctors. Ones who have a dozen initials after their names that I wouldn’t trust to even make me a cup of tea, never mind to look after me. I have also met trainees in many different professions who I would put my full trust in. But maybe that’s just me. I realise that not everyone knows where I have come from or who I am. Hence this post. I also appreciate that I will not be what everyone seeks. Some people need to work with a professional with 3 degrees and 12 initials after their name. And that’s ok with me. I cannot help everyone. And I do not proclaim to. But those of you who feel I have something to offer you, as I am, whether it’s in person or by sharing my knowledge with you, I am beyond grateful to you. And will always do my best to serve you and provide you with all that I can for you to be - you. I hope this is enough. Sarah. And as some bonus info for you: - I am also a Mum of 2 boys - I am a lover of PKM (personal knowledge management) - Have always been an autodidact - I'm a highly sensitive introvert - I am constantly learning how to deal with my anxiety and imposter syndrome So yeah, this was fun!
