# Everyone Gets to Be Young

%% [[everyone gets to be young but not everyone gets to be old]] %%
I was watching a TV show the other day. Virgin River on Netflix. A guilty, cheesy pleasure of mine. Just one of many.
One thing that struck me was when a group of older women were discussing getting old and the issues that come with it: hot flashes, foggy brain, aches and pains, and so on.
The young girl in the group mentioned how she wasn't looking forward to all of that and would do anything to hold onto her youth.
One of the older women responded with an absolute gem that I just had to write down...
We should embrace growing old because not everyone has that luxury. Everyone gets to be young, but not everyone gets to be old.
As someone who has lost young friends and who was once petrified of dying young (that's for another post), I'm grateful to have made it another year.
Life can be tough sometimes; our bodies may change, and we may forget stuff. Things may not be how they once were.
But every season we experience is an opportunity to embrace all that life has to offer. That means embracing the lows as well as the highs.
Again, everyone gets to be young, but not everyone gets to be old. Another [[Notes to Myself - Lessons Learned & Shared Advice|note to self]] to add to the list.
